Radiative feedback from ionized gas

چکیده
H2 formation in metal-free gas occurs via the intermediate H − or H+2 ions. Destruction of these ions by photodissociation therefore serves to suppress H2 formation. In this paper, I highlight the fact that several processes that occur in ionized primordial gas produce photons energetic enough to photodissociate H− or H+2 and outline how to compute the photodissociation rates produced by a particular distribution of ionized gas. I also show that there are circumstances of interest, such as during the growth of H ii regions around the first stars, in which this previously overlooked form of radiative feedback is of considerable importance.

The structure of radiative shock waves IV . Effects of electron thermal conduction
We consider the structure of steady–state radiative shock waves propagating in the partially ionized hydrogen gas with density ρ1 = 10 −10 gm cm and temperature 3000 K ≤ T1 ≤ 8000 K. The radiative shock wave models with electron thermal conduction in the vicinity of the viscous jump are compared with pure radiative models. The threshold shock wave velocity above of which effects of electron the...
متن کاملDAMPED Lyα SYSTEMS
Observations of damped Lyα systems offer a unique window on the neutral-gas reservoirs that gave rise to galaxies at high redshifts. This review focuses on critical properties such as the H I and metal content of the gas and on independent evidence for star formation. Together, these provide an emerging picture of gravitationally bound objects in which accretion of gas from the IGM replenishes ...

متن کاملDwarf Galaxies with Ionizing Radiation Feedback. Ii: Spatially-resolved Star Formation Relation
We investigate the spatially-resolved star formation relation using a galactic disk formed in a comprehensive high-resolution (3.8 pc) simulation. Our new implementation of stellar feedback includes ionizing radiation as well as supernova explosions, and we handle ionizing radiation by solving the radiative transfer equation rather than by a subgrid model. Photoheating by stellar radiation stab...
متن کاملTheKinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich Effect fromPatchy Reionization: the View from the Simulations
We present the first calculation of the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (kSZ) effect due to the inhomogeneus reionization of the universe based on detailed large-scale radiative transfer simulations of reionization. The resulting sky power spectra peak at l = 2000−8000 with maximum values of [l(l+ 1)Cl/(2π)]max ∼ 4− 7 × 10 . The scale roughly corresponds to the typical ionized bubble sizes observed ...
